INFO

André Künkel (*1987) was born in Berlin-Friedrichshain and currently lives and works in Berlin. An active artist, he has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions since 2009. He has a degree in Museology and has published two extensive monographs on his work, «André Künkel 2012-2019» (2019) and «André Künkel Weltverdunklung» (2021).

His ongoing painting series «Paradeisos» presents an entanglement of mythical motifs and figures, mostly taken/inspired from Ovid‘s epic «Metamorphoses». The transformations therein not only encompass the figures, appropriated from ancient mythology, but also the practice of painting itself. Through the countless layers of paint an unusual materiality emerges, creating striking visual worlds and shadowy silhouettes.
